Vote Common Sense.jpg

Local politics moves fast, memories fade, and official minutes rarely tell the full story. What happens in one meeting often vanishes by the next, replaced by new motions, new votes, and new narratives. The Common Sense Legislative Tracker exists to stop that cycle. It’s a living record of how Columbia County’s elected officials, especially the Common Council, actually vote on the decisions that shape everyday life: rent control, housing, zoning, public safety, and the use of taxpayer money.

By documenting every vote in one transparent table, residents can begin to see patterns that would otherwise stay buried. Who stands with renters and who sides with landlords. Who funds new housing and who blocks it. Who votes for public investment and who calls for cuts. This isn’t gossip or conjecture, but an archive of action, built from the public record.

The goal isn’t partisanship. It’s accountability. Voters deserve a clear, verifiable account of what their representatives actually did, not just what they said they’d do. Over time, this tracker will become a mirror for local politics: a record that resists spin, clarifies choices, and reminds everyone that in a democracy, transparency is the minimum standard for trust.

Agreement is welcome. Disagreement is vital. Nuance is rare and therefore prized. Common Sense exists to sharpen arguments, not settle them. Submit your Guest Op-Ed HERE.
